Electrician Courses - Our Approach To Your Development

former electrician student WillWe are pioneers in courses and training that use 'Blended Learning'. This is a mixture of Electrical Theory Lessons, which you can do in your own time from home, and Electrical Practical Lessons, which take place at one of our electrician training centres.

We deliver our electrical training in this way so that you are in complete control of the speed in which you study and complete the course. Most NCS students have both family and work commitments so they fit the course around them. This works well for students as they do not have to give up their job until they have the confidence and skills to move into the electrical industry.

You can do the theory at home when you have time, maybe in the evenings or at weekends, and you can take some time off work to fit in the practical training sessions. The practical sessions are broken down into a number of week long blocks, which will be spent at an NCS Centre of Excellence.

At the Practical sessions you will put into practice what you have been studying in the Theory and actually see the end result of your hard work. As most NCS students will tell you, the learning curve is steep and you will be very surprised how much you learn in a short space of time.

During the electrician courses you will learn a whole manner of things, anything from using various tools to rewiring a house. You will be given the skills you need to get into the industry. As the Tutors, Assessors and Trainers will tell you, they would have sufficient confidence, in your ability, to invite you into their homes to do an electrical job.

Throughout the training you will have access to one of our Tutors to help and advise you. Once you have finished the course you will not only have access to your Tutor, but also a specialist career search and business start-up team. They will be available to assist you in securing employment or starting your own business.

30 Years In Retail Gone In The Flash Of A Spark...

Nigel Crossman

Meet Nigel Crossman ... 46 years old from Guildford. What would Nigel do after being made redundant after 30 years of doing the same job?

Out of nowhere Nigel suddenly found himself without a job, after 30 years of working in retail what could Nigel do next?

Like most people he went straight into the job market and started looking for other retail jobs. But he soon realized that his last job didn’t really give him specific expertise and he lacked knowledge in a lot of areas.

“I had 30 years experience in retail but my last 7 years were wearing 10 different hats, I didn’t do ‘A’ job I did whatever was required at the time, from store manager to IT trainer to project manager.”

The trouble was also that Nigel was used to making £30,000 or so a year and having a company car but he didn’t want to take a big pay cut ... unfortunately that was looking increasing likely. The longer it went on the more Nigel decided that maybe a career in retail was no longer what he wanted.

Nigel always had the burning ambition to run his own business but never really believed it would happen ... until now ... he came to the realization that his redundancy presented a fantastic opportunity to follow his ambition, learn a new trade and start up the business that he had long dreamed of.

He liked the idea of learning a trade for a number of reasons - number one being that there is a constant supply of work available ... a very important point to consider when changing career or starting a business.

So it came down to a choice of either becoming a plumber or electrician. Nigel didn’t like the wet stuff and found electrics interesting ... decision made, an electrician Nigel would become. But how would he train and where would he get trained?

Being a thorough and diligent man, Nigel spent a large amount of time considering his options and researching training providers and their courses. In the end New Career Skills ticked all of his boxes.

“The package over all just seemed to out-class the competitors. NCS offered something which would equip you with all you needed to know to allow you to go out on your own as soon as the programme finished.”

To make sure he had an income whilst training with NCS he decided to work in car valeting. He didn’t have any issues fitting his electrical training around work - in fact he found it easier than he expected.

Although at the start he did struggle with the home study part of the course as it had been 20+ years since he had done any studying. But with the help of his tutors he soon got back on track and actually enjoyed it and grew in confidence.

“My tutor was absolutely fantastic, really helpful, he will go out of his way for you, I still email him now months later, he is still more than happy to answer queries.”

After Nigel finished his training and gained his City & Guilds electrician qualification he has the help and support of NCS Career Search, which is a free service offered by New Career Skills to assist students in finding work or starting their own business.

So what happened next? Nigel jumped straight in and setup his own business ... Blue Lighting Electrical and it’s all going very well. In fact it’s going so well his son decided to retrain as a plumber with New Career Skills and now they have a partnership. Nigel’s dream became a reality ... see if yours can too and request a free information pack by clicking here.
